Kubernetes Data Protection
The adoption of Kubernetes-enabled infrastructures and applications has revealed the challenge involved in enabling persistent, reliable data storage in an ephemeral compute environment. To build enterprise-grade, business-critical infrastructures and services, it is necessary to address all aspects of Kubernetes data management, including backup and recovery, disaster recovery, and security. However, Kubernetes remains immature in some of these areas, leaving large enterprises to question its ability to meet their strict business, operational, security, and compliance requirements.
That challenge is being addressed as solutions focused on data storage or data protection integrate or evolve to become data management solutions, most of which already abstract the storage access and protection layers from physical resources. They offer advanced data services beyond the basic functions of data storage or backup and recovery and provide a consistent user experience across multiple cloud platforms.
In this GigaOm Analyst Insight Video, Joep Piscaer offer an overview of the research he and fellow Analyst Enrico Signoretti conducted for a pair of GigaOm research reports: the Key Criteria Report for Evaluating Kubernetes Data Protection, and the GigaOm Radar for Kubernetes Data Protection. Joep in the video presents the key criteria, evaluation metrics, and emerging technologies that IT decision-makers should hone on when seeking to adopt a Kubernetes data protection solution. He then goes on to describe his in-depth competitive analysis of 13 vendor solutions featured in the GigaOm Radar report.
