1. Ericsson: ZTNA Solution

This GigaOm Solution Brief was commissioned by Ericsson Enterprise Wireless Solutions (formerly Cradlepoint) and is based on the GigaOm Radar Report for Zero-Trust Network Access (ZTNA), 2024.

Solution Overview

Founded in 2006 and operating as a division of Ericsson since 2020, Ericsson Enterprise Wireless Solutions (formerly Cradlepoint) is a Leader in cloud-delivered LTE and 5G wireless network and security solutions, specializing in 4G and 5G connectivity for businesses, industries, governments, and communities. It enables hybrid WAN with wired and cellular broadband options to be used as edge connectivity. In 2023, Cradlepoint acquired Ericom Software and its enterprise cloud security platform to build a fully converged networking and security offering optimized for 5G in the form of NetCloud SASE.

Ericsson’s ZTNA is available through the following deployment options: customer-hosted, cloud-delivered, and hybrid. The customer-hosted model requires the NetCloud Exchange Service Gateway and ZTNA user licenses, which include access to a client. The cloud-delivered model leverages Ericsson’s SLA-based global cloud network consisting of 50 distributed PoPs and removes the requirement for the Service Gateway. The hybrid model enables network services requiring strong regulatory compliance to be deployed on-premises with less sensitive services delivered through the cloud. Additionally, the solution offers a fully converged firewall with advanced web security features such as secure web gateway, cloud access security broker, remote browser isolation, content disarm and reconstruction, and SD-WAN.

Ericsson’s ZTNA solution is designed to provide secure access to applications and resources, regardless of their location. The solution’s integration with Ericsson’s routers reduces the need for multiple clients and app connectors, simplifying deployment and management for IT teams.

The solution’s adaptability, user-friendly interface, and solid security foundation make it an attractive option for organizations in search of a reliable and dynamic ZTNA solution.

How to Read This Report

The GigaOm Solution Brief concisely analyzes a vendor’s offering in a specific market. It builds on the framework developed in GigaOm’s Key Criteria and Radar reports and outlines how a vendor performs against three primary decision criteria:

  • Key features differentiate solutions and highlight the primary criteria to consider when evaluating a streaming data platform solution.
  • Emerging features show how well each vendor implements capabilities that are not yet mainstream but are expected to become more widespread and compelling within the next 12 to 18 months.
  • Business criteria provide insight into the nonfunctional requirements that factor into a purchase decision and determine a solution’s impact on an organization.

The specific decision criteria applied in this report are summarized below. The corresponding report, GigaOm Key Criteria for Zero-Trust Network Access (ZTNA), provides more detailed descriptions. The corresponding report, GigaOm Radar for Zero-Trust Network Access (ZTNA), provides a complete vendor comparison.
