In this episode, Byron talks about how AI isn't modeled after our understanding of intelligence.

Gigaom brings you our unique analysis and commentary on the present and future of AI.

The artificial intelligence that we have--which is quite impressive--doesn't come to us based on an understanding of intelligence. Think about that; the AI we have isn't modeled after how we understand intelligence. This is in large part because we don't really understand intelligence. And therefore the AI we've built has very little to actually do with intelligence. What we do is we use brute force to simulate intelligence. We're concerned with what conclusion the computer draws from what data, and how it gets there doesn't matter. It stands to reason that further advances in AI aren't going to come from understanding intelligence, but just brute force emulating what intelligence looks like.
