- In an effort to foster the AI industry and keep AI talent at home, the Canadian government has pledged $93 million ($125 million Canadian) to support A.I. research centers in Montreal, Toronto, and Edmonton. AI researchers such as including Geoff Hinton, a computer scientist at the University of Toronto, who specialized machine learning, have called Canada home.
- Golf’s first artificial intelligence platform, Arccos Caddie, released by Arccos Golf, leverages over 61 million shots hit by the Arccos community, as well as elevation data and 386 million geotagged data points on more than 40,000 courses to help golfers lower scores by making smarter, data-driven decisions on the course.
- An Australian-Chinese research team has created the world's thinnest hologram, which opens the door to integrating 3D holography into smartphones, computers, and TVs. The hologram can be seen without 3D goggles and is 1000 times thinner than a human hair.
- At its I/O 2017 developer conference, Google announced the arrival of the Google Assistant to iOS as a standalone app and stated that Android and iOS smartphone users will now be able to access voice apps made by third-party developers.
