- Improving people's grammar is among the interests of venture capitalists. Case in point, technology startup Grammarly garnered an initial investment and is among the largest for a tech company.
- Dell is publicizing its venture arm. No longer in stealth mode after its acquisition of EMC, the company has already invested in over 70 startups within its domain expertise. It plans to make $100 million in startup investments annually.
- In healthcare, deep learning technology is enabling companies like Google DeepMind to revolutionize eye care, and IBM's Watson to improve cancer diagnostics, while hardware providers like Nvidia use specialized computers to increase the diagnostic processes' reliability.
- A team at Google Brain has developed a machine learning algorithm used by a program called Google Deep Dream to make its own art. The algorithm composes by scanning millions of photos pixel by pixel for color, shade, and border, and has learned to display its art over a template once prompted.
- An Israeli conversational analytics startup is working to get computers to understand sarcasm. Currently using its AI-based neural network to collect and analyze test datasets, the company hopes to improve context and intent in business, including online recommendations and even sales.
