MIT Flat food innovation, Sergey Brin's massive airship, and Google's recent achievements in online advertising are making news in today's AI Minute.

  • A team of MIT and Syracuse University researchers is seeking to reduce the cost of food transport with the invention of flat food that transforms from 2D to 3D before your eyes. Using a gelatin-cellulose composite, when exposed to water the food films curl up and expand into various 3D shapes. Though still in development, pasta is planned as the first transformative food on the menu. Read more.
  • Google Co-Founder Sergey Brin is building a massive airship and plans to use it for both personal pleasure and to deliver humanitarian aid. Though not as large as the famous Hindenburg, it will be today's largest ship, measuring 656 feet in length. Read more.
  • Google has recently reached the Holy Grail of online advertising with a new technology that connects credit-card data to real-world purchase records. Stirring privacy concerns, Google assures personal data is protected using “double-blind” encryption. Read more.
  • This means that while the identity of a brick and mortar purchaser remains protected, Google can connect the online ad leading to an individual in-store purchase. How merchants gain consumer consent to share credit-card information, is unclear. Read more.
  • Research scientist Janelle Shane, famous for using neural networks to name recipes, bands and superheroes has taken on paint names with amusing results. The initial attempt to generate the latest colors for home projects included Burf Pink, Stoner Blue, Dorkwood, and Turdly. Read more.
