Gigaom brings you our unique analysis and commentary on the present and future of AI.
Think of all the things that you would like an artificial intelligence to do for you. I don't mean an artificial general intelligence, just the kind of narrow AI that we have now. Just think of the ways that it will be able to help you in your day-to-day life. You'll probably get it to file your taxes and renew your driver's license and renew your insurance, make sure you have the right insurance coverage, maintain your car, make your grocery list based on what you've bought in the past and what you've thrown out. You'd want it to route you through traffic, help you plan your day, maybe pick the perfect restaurant for a special occasion. You probably want it to help you organize and be more efficient in your day-to-day life. So think of everything relating to the modern bureaucracy that is our life that is annoying to you--its days are numbered. The idea that you would spend hours and hours of your life doing something like your taxes will seem preposterous in just a short amount of time.
