It is easier to destroy something than to create, but if this is true, why have we had progress? Well, it’s because most people prefer to create. And collectively they do so faster than others can destroy.
The digital world, however, is more brittle than the analog world. If you delete a word from The Great Gatsby, you still have a masterpiece. Delete a single character from a compressed file, and you have, well, alphabet soup. Artificial intelligence may power the few who destroy to do so at a devastating scale. There is no easy answer to this, or way around it, and, for better or worse, that genie is out of the bottle.
