The assembly line was a kind of artificial intelligence. To a craftsperson, this new way to make things must have been terrifying. It made stuff better and faster and cheaper. Henry Ford could make a Model T in 93 minutes. And since he ran 30 lines side by side, a new Model T was created every 3 minutes. And yet, during this time, wages rose. Unemployment never budged. Cheap cars made entirely new industries–cafés and hotels, highway building and maintenance, car insurance, financing and all the rest. AI will be no different than this.
