In a prior AI Minute, I talked about how large companies have a financial advantage in artificial intelligence. They can put more money into recruiting, they can build larger teams, and they can invest in more hardware. I didn’t talk, though, about their access to data. Those companies have access to more data than probably any other institution on the planet, and that data, they can then in turn use to train their AIs. Are we going to reach a point where data monopolies are going to be broken up by governments, and that the enormous troves of data that these companies have will have to be anonymized and made available to anyone to use, in the interest of promoting competition?
