The idea that we’re going to have self driving cars is one, you know, we’re kinda getting used to. When you imagine a day when a car pulls up and we get in it and it takes us where we want to go, we get out and it drives off. It poses a question though about what other things can we remove humans from entirely? How would you feel about flying on an airplane … with a self-flying airplane? With no pilot? In a sense, flying an airplane is a more straightforward computer problem than navigating a busy city. How about surgery? Would you let a robot operate on you without a doctor present under the idea that the robot does it far better than a human would? Case by case we’re going to have to wrap our minds around the idea that it’s not always going to be a human that we interact with that’ll be making big choices and big decisions that affect our lives.
