How much empathy do we want AI caregivers to exhibit? Or an AI therapist? Or even a robotic janitor? If we built one of those, or maybe a robotic teacher, would we want them to smile? Would we want them to laugh? Would we want them to sweat? Would we want them to seem absolutely human? What effect might that have if we did it? If we made these creations as human like as could be, where they were virtually indistinguishable from humans. What effect might that have, for instance, on children who were raised in a world completely surrounded by fake empathy?
