Job Description

The Director of PMO is responsible for developing PMO best-practices inclusive of project planning, schedule management, risk management, core team management, resource management, metrics generation, and problem-solving process to include schedules, budgets, and ensuring consistent practices throughout the project life cycle. This position requires a  well-rounded individual who is detail-oriented and can manage programs while leading a PMO team. The Director of PMO is someone who can thrive in an unstructured environment by fostering collaboration and distilling complex problems into actionable plans to help drive programs and projects to successful completion.


  • Design, implement and advance the maturing of an enterprise Program Management Office
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and key business stakeholders serving as the core spokesperson for the PMO
  • Drafting new and improving existing project management office policies and processes
  • Direct the development and implementation of project and program management methodologies
  • Direct project completion success/satisfaction survey process and lead regular company-wide project reviews
  • Provide “dashboard” reports for executive management and other stakeholders
  • Partner with various internal and external departments to ensure effective teamwork
  • Effectively engage with GigaOm’s customers, third parties and project stakeholders throughout the duration of projects, developing positive, enduring relationships (up to and including “C” level)
  • Ensure that a clear understanding of projects’ progress, plans, risk, and status is regularly, clearly, and accurately reported, identifying and resolving conflicts wherever they arise
  • Ensure that all projects’ creation, development, and execution as well as projects’ scope, budget, and justification are all well documented
  • Maintain and improve the PMO organization structure, hire, and manage project staffing requirements in line with project objectives
  • Inspire change and collaboration among diverse and distributed teams
  • Establish and advance best practices for program and project management across the organization, and encourage the sharing of best practices and insights across all members of the team
  • Analyzing financial data, including project budgets, risks, and resource allocation
  • Providing financial reports and budget outlines to Executives
  • Continuously evaluating projects to ensure they are meeting company standards, adhering to budgets, and meeting deadlines
  • Leverage the PMO function to support the selection and implementation of fit-for-purpose technology solutions
  • Ensure the PMO team identifies program and project bottlenecks and proactively communicates and monitors resolution across the portfolio
  • Oversee the management of cross-program timelines, dependencies, decisions, and constraints by the PMO team
  • Establish and manage key performance indicators (KPI) across programs and projects in the portfolio and the PMO function
  • Guiding and directing Project Managers, ensuring that effective project controls are established and maintained for all projects within their span of control. Maintaining key PMO artifacts; primarily the PMO runbooks and performing monthly program reviews

  • Expert-level knowledge of project and change management, methodologies, techniques, processes, and approaches
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and track record of thriving in a hyper-growth technology organization
  • A natural problem-solver and strategic thinker; able to bring clarity to chaos and navigate through ambiguity
  • A positive, collaborative, and friendly attitude
  • Technical IT experience (e.g. Public Cloud, QA, Software Development, DBA)
  • Solid PMO background at a senior level, with experience of building and running a new Project Management Office in a start-up environment
  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability to mentor and effectively manage a team of project managers, providing leadership and professional development for a large scale PMO team
  • Strong understanding of the Project Lifecycle (PLC); System Development Lifecycle (SDLC); and Agile delivery components and frameworks (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, etc).
  • Experience of driving cost efficiencies across large complex programs
  • Demonstrated expertise with Project Management fundamentals (budget, timeline, risks, deliverables tracking, action/decision logs, etc.)
  • Proficiency in various project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) and their appropriate application
  • Knowledge of project planning/monitoring methodologies/processes, design, implementation and documentation, as well as experience with project management governance processes and functions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/tasks/assignments at one time
  • Ability to dive deep into complex issues and help resolve them
  • Experience in developing strong internal partnerships and fostering a strong team dynamic
  • Highly organized leader with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of an integrated project/program team
  • Demonstrable knowledge of program and project management tools such as Asana, Jira, and AirTable
  • Stellar communication skills and a demonstrable ability to lead and influence others, up to the C-level
  • Demonstrated capability in organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Formal professional project management certifications such as PMP or Prince 2
  • PgMP, PfMP, Six Sigma, and Agile knowledge or certification are a plus
