Facebook and Yahoo make patent peace

In a widely expected move, Facebook (s fb) and Yahoo (s yhoo) have agreed to put aside a ruinous lawsuit that would have locked the two Silicon Valley giants into a lengthy patent throwdown.

Not so fast: Apple v. Motorola back on for another hearing

A week after slapping down Google-owned Motorola and Apple for some of their “ridiculous” claims in their ongoing patent lawsuit, Judge Richard Posner has given the case a small reprieve. There will be an injunction hearing held in Chicago next week.

New Facebook patents cover IM, search

The 650 patents that Facebook acquired from Microsoft (s msft) are “web-related” said a source with knowledge of the deal and listed some specific examples. The source said the portfolio includes patents related to: instant-messaging, e-commerce, LTE, mobile, handsets, search and advertising.

Facebook acquires AOL patents from Microsoft

Facebook announced today that it will pay $550 million for the right to 650 patents and patent applications from Microsoft.

Microsoft acquired those patents and hundreds of others in a deal with AOL earlier this month.

Microsoft gets another Android maker to pay up: LG

Microsoft’s patent licensing machine is back in action, lining up another Android maker: this time, LG. The Korean manufacturer signed a patent agreement providing coverage for tablets, phones and other devices running the Android or Chrome OS. The terms were not disclosed.
