Mophie launches Juice Pack for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

The popular line of iPhone battery packs from Mophie is getting bigger. On Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Mophie introduced and began taking pre-orders for three new Juice Packs: Two for the iPhone 6 and another for the iPhone 6 Plus. The cases come in a choice of three colors and ship in three to four weeks.

Juice Packs serve a dual purpose, both protecting an [company]Apple[/company] iPhone just like a standard case and providing a second battery for the handset. The $99.95 Juice Pack Air for iPhone 6 doubles the run-time of the phone while the $119.95 Juice Pack adds 120 percent battery life to an iPhone 6. A version of the Juice Pack for the iPhone 6 Plus is also available for $119.95 and boosts battery life of that phone by 60 percent.

Granted, Mophie is going back to the well here by using the same design and functionality it did with prior iPhone models. That says something about the product though, which my son swears by for his iPhone: You’d be really hard pressed to run your new iPhone battery down in a day with a Juice Pack, if that’s even possible at all.

The products are well designed too, providing an LED battery charge indicator and a switch to charge your phone or save the Juice Pack battery for later. And the pass-through charging system is smart too. When plugged in, your iPhone internal battery will charge before the Juice Pack battery, providing power where you need it the most.

  1. PRETHOUGHT

The microUSB port on my mophie wasn’t very sturdy when I had a 4S. I’ve stopped using them for that reason and I’ve been able to go a lot longer without one with the iPhone 6
