Pebble smartwatches just got pushier (in a good way) for Android

One of the best features of the Pebble smartwatch is its support for both iOS and Android. But that support hasn’t always been on par between the two: Unless you installed a third-party notifier application, Pebble’s own app only pushed the basics from an Android device to the wrist. That changes with an update to Pebble’s software that is now rolling out in phases through the Google Play Store.

Version 2.1.0 of the Pebble app for Android natively supports push notifications from any app. So you’re not limited to SMS, emails, calls and such on your Pebble watch.

Want Google Now updates on your wrist? (Yes I do!) You can do that. Need your favorite sports team’s scores from ESPN or another app? It’s in there. Dying to see when it’s time for free chips at the Word Series of Poker tables? OK, probably not, although I admit I’m addicted to the game and wouldn’t mind a buzz on my wrist when that time comes.

Pebble says the updated app is for Android 4.3 and up, although it’s working on an update for older Android devices; you’ll still need to be running Android 4.0 at a minimum for it. The company has also released a firmware update for all Pebble watches that adds support for up to 80 languages.
