The National Security Agency is currently hiring technical professionals who can bring innovation and surprise to cloud computing. While the final output of these professionals will be known only by a few, it’s easy to see why developers would be interested in the world’s leading signals intelligence agency.
NSA has two primary missions: signals intelligence and information assurance. The signals intelligence mission intercepts foreign signals to produce intelligence that will benefit the United States. The information assurance mission, on the other hand, is in the business of protecting classified U.S. information. This tug of war between NSA and America’s adversaries determines who will have the information advantage. NSA advertising calls its careers extraordinary, and given the importance of the agency’s mission, there’s little doubt that it’s true.
Yet technology advances at an incredible pace, and staying ahead is what the NSA needs to do to play its role in the safety and security of America. This is the environment in which cloud computing will be taken to a new level.
It’s safe to say that these are not common positions, and those who win the job competition will not be working on common jobs. They will be driving NSA’s mission forward in the cloud, helping America stay a step ahead of its adversaries.
