A “future” merger of Android and Chrome? Google’s already doing that

Hiroshi Lockheimer is now in charge of engineering for both Google Android and Chrome and some, such as the Wall Street Journal, suggest that Google is bringing its two major software platforms together in the future.

That sounds like forward-looking thinking but that future has already begun.

On this week’s Chrome Show podcast we spent a large part of the conversation discussing how [company]Google[/company] has expanded the Chrome framework beyond simple extensions to both standalone apps and even Android software compatibility. Both platforms have a distinct role in Google’s view of the world, however they can and will work together; not through a simple merger, but by shared services, software and centralized cloud storage.
