Nvidia is making more inroads with Chromebooks as a new HP Chromebook 14 model is using the Tegra K1 to power Chrome OS. The base model starts at $299 but we recommend spending an extra $30 to step up to a full 4 GB of memory. And if you want a better visual experience, the $429 model upgrades the display to a full HD touchscreen.
That’s not the model we’d recommend for a grade-schooler though: We share some thoughts on that scenario as well as a general rule-of-thumb when it comes to choosing a Chromebook for performance. Chromecasts get even better this week as Google finally launched the Backdrop ambient screen feature it announced at Google I/O earlier this year.
