Skype users in India will be losing the ability to make outgoing calls to landlines or mobile phones in that country on November 10. The Times of India first reported the news on Monday, saying the Microsoft-owned company gave no reason for the upcoming policy change.
A support page on Skype’s website confirms the news but doesn’t explain the change:
As of 10 November 2014, if you are in India, calling from Skype to mobiles and landlines within India will unfortunately no longer be available. This change only affects Skype calls to landlines and mobiles; you can still make free Skype-to-Skype calls within India, and you can still call mobiles and landlines in India from outside the country (as well as make calls from India to other countries).
Skype says that affected customers paying a subscription fee for the outgoing VoIP to landline or mobile calls should consider canceling their plan to avoid future billings. The Times of India says that Skype is also offering to refund affected users, although the Skype support page makes no mention of any refunds.
