Andrew Spyker, a performance architect and strategist with more than a decade of experience at IBM, is moving over to Netflix where he will join the cloud platform engineering team starting Tuesday. He blogged about his move here.
It’s not a tremendous surprise since Spyker knows a little something something about the [company]Netflix[/company] Open Source Software (OSS) initiative. Last year his team at [company]IBM[/company] won one of that company’s coveted Cloud Monkey Awards at AWS Re:Invent for their work using Netflix tools and technologies to re-work Acme Air, a sample travel app designed to show off IBM’s cloud expertise. The purpose was to show how developers can build apps for multiple device types without worrying about what type of devices they are.
Netflix has made a name for itself well beyond video streaming by building technology to help Amazon Web Services and potentially other cloud infrastructure run better. The Netflix OSS effort is meant to propagate the use of those technologies beyond [company]Amazon[/company].
