A new report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple will add a third color option to its iPad line, possibly as early as this month, in an effort to “goose sales.” The color choices for iPads would then be the same as for Apple iPhones, which are available in Space Gray, Silver and Gold. Apple is expected to hold an iPad event in the coming weeks where it would debut updated tablets but not the long-rumored 12.9-inch model; that’s a 2015 event according to Bloomberg.
The current iPad models debuted last October, so it’s a safe bet [company]Apple[/company] will introduce new versions this month. It’s also reasonable to assume the new iPads would have the same A8 chip as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus phones, possibly have more rounded edges like the handsets and gain a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
As far as the new gold color goes, that wouldn’t surprise me either, but I don’t agree with Bloomberg’s suggestion that it would “goose sales.” I don’t think many people have held off on purchasing an iPad simply because it doesn’t come in gold. Then again, I’m a Space Gray kinda guy, so maybe I’m wrong on that.
Growth of Apple’s iPad sales have stalled of late, with the last quarter figure actually down from the prior year. Now that the company has a 5.5-inch iPhone, I wonder if that will further impact sales of the iPad mini. I could envision some iPhone 6 Plus owners using the phone as their tablet and I remember not using a small tablet when I bought a Galaxy Note back 2012; the large handset sufficed on its own.
