Another Structure Show, another frenetic week of cloud, data and even mobile news to parse…
First up, mobile infrastructure gigantor [company]Ericsson[/company] made a “large investment” for a majority stake in [company]Apcera[/company]. How large? You can ask, but they’re not saying. It’s just big. Which sort of sets off my spidey sense.
This week our guests are Jason Hoffman, head of Ericsson’s cloud business unit and Derek Collison, founder of Apcera, who talk to us about the problem Ericsson/Apcera will attack and why Platform as a Service is not enough (apologies to the PaaS mafia) for what big policy- and governance-obsessed companies need to do. But not about the price of this investment.
And as usual Derrick Harris and I kick off with our take on the big news of the past week including Larry Ellison stepping down (or sideways) from the [company]Oracle[/company] CEO slot(including some conspiracy theories; Ray Ozzie’s latest take on business communications — some have described [company]Talko[/company] as Ozzie’s war on conference calls to which I say: Yes! It’s a dirty job but someone has to do it. Oh, and the[company] up- and down-sides of the [company]IBM[/company] excellent Watson cognitive computing adventure.
Hosts: Barb Darrow and Derrick Harris
