SAP throws in with the OpenStack crowd

Nothing says enterprise quite like SAP, the king of big business apps, so I’m sure the OpenStack cadre is thrilled that SAP is now officially aboard as a corporate sponsor of the OpenStack Foundation, joining just about every other IT player in the universe. SAP archrival Oracle joined late last year, also at the sponsor level.

There are 78 sponsor members of the OpenStack Foundation in addition to higher-level gold and platinum members. In fact, as far as I can tell, the only two non-OpenStack laggards remain Microsoft and Amazon Web Services. But never say never, especially since even public cloud giant AWS is making conciliatory noises about the hybrid cloud model and Microsoft cloud guy Scott Guthrie said his company was considering adding OpenStack API support to Azure.

SAP also announced its participation in the open-source Cloud Foundry PaaS effort, but truthfully, that’s double dipping since it already did that in February. Maybe SAP felt it needed to dress things up for the big OSCON conference this week.
