If you’re into big data, you have to catch this week’s guest, Raymie Stata, CEO of Altiscale, a startup that aims to bring Hadoop to the masses. While CTO at Yahoo Stata helped bring Hadoop to fruition and now he’s building Altiscale, which provides “hardcore Hadoop as a service” to digital media and advertising other companies. For those who don’t know, Stata comes to tech honestly. His father, Raymond Stata, is chairman and co-founder of Analog Devices so Raymie was no stranger to a soldering iron as a youngster. But he soon gravitated to software.
But first, we try to suss out what’s happening with Rackspace, which last week hired Morgan Stanley to assess its options which could include a buyout by a bigger cloud player.
Also on tap, Tamr, the latest creation of serial database entrepreneur Michael Stonebraker (who was a guest on the Structure show last year) link below. Also what’s moving and shaking at Baidu and why we should pay attention to it.
Oh, don’t forget, the seventh annual Structure event is just a month away. There’ll be lively discussions on the state of open-source cloud, an update on Facebook’s ambitious infrastructure projects; and the execs of the world’s biggest public clouds — Amazon’s Werner Vogels, Google’s Urs Hölzle and Microsoft’s Scott Guthrie will all be there.
