Nokia brings Lytro-like image refocus to all Lumias

After debuting on Nokia(s nok) Lumias with PureView cameras, the company is bringing its image refocus feature to all Lumia phones running Windows Phone 8(s msft). The software takes an image from the camera and produces an interactive picture where you can choose and change the focal point. This demonstration pic illustrates the refocusing function after the image was taken. The visual effect is similar to the standalone Lytro plenoptic camera that debuted in 2012.

    • I see in the comments to Nokia’s post it says it may take time for the Windows Store to reflect the availability across all models and the post moderator specifically says “all Lumias”, so maybe we just need to wait a bit more. Others with higher powered phones are saying it’s not available for their devices yet either, so it may be a timing thing.

Ha, I have that phone as a test phone for MDM at work. Nice phone for the money and I have already recommended it to a few people as a first smartphone or a teens phone. The Apps are good enough as far as numbers, the OS is fluid and solid, Here maps is good, etc.

But… the camera on this thing sinks. Not sure if this update is going to help anything as its garbage in, garbage out. And I know they are keeping cost down but even cheaper (way cheaper) features phones have flash. PUT A GOD DAMN FLASH ON THESE THINGS!!! Just the missing flash along makes this phone worthless to me.
