Marten Mickos has been at the forefront of private cloud since the get-go and witnessed the hype cycle first hand. The CEO of Eucalyptus concedes his company got into the game maybe too early, but has refocused and is still in the fray.
He also sees a place for OpenStack, VMware, and (obviously) Eucalyptus private clouds going forward — no problem.
And, if the Amazon-built CIA cloud presages a wave of AWS private clouds, he’s still optimistic. “If you have $600 million you can buy your private cloud from Amazon. Everybody else come to me.”
And, Derrick Harris and I talk about VMware’s(s vmw) entry into the federal cloud sweepstakes and the new Oryx tool coming from Cloudera to help people query Hadoop interactively in real time — a topic that will doubtless get the full treatment at Structure Data in a few weeks. Oh, and the ever-growing ranks of OpenStack sponsors (GoDaddy is the last vendor in.)
It’s a lively one, so check it out.
