Samsung continues to push the Galaxy S4, introduces black faux-leather edition

The Galaxy S4 is nearly a year old, but that won’t stop Samsung from churning out new variants. We’ve already seen the Galaxy S4 Active, Mini, Zoom and Google Play(s goog) models. Now the original Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S4 Mini are getting a new black paint job and the same leather-like backing Samsung introduced on the Galaxy Note 3.

As you can see in the images, these are the same phones as before, except with a black bezel on the front and a black faux-leather cover on the back. Samsung is also loading exclusive wallpapers and ringtones onto the phone, which are unlikely to stir any new interest. For what it’s worth, though, the leathery back cover does hold a certain amount of appeal over Samsung’s standard plastic panel.

With the Galaxy S5 announcement likely just a few weeks away, I’d hold off on buying a Galaxy S4, even if you’ve been waiting all this time for a black model. The Galaxy S5 is sure to bring with it next-generation specs and loads of new features. And even if you still prefer the Galaxy S4, it’ll likely cost half as much by then.

Samsung says the black Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Mini will be coming to select markets starting this month.
