Sony has been pretty good about keeping many of its Android devices relatively up to date, but the Xperia Blog is reporting that a number of older phones will no longer be receiving Android updates. And according to Sony’s support pages, these phones are listed as being on the “latest & final version” of Android software.
The phones that will no longer be receiving updates include:
- Xperia acro S
- Xperia arc S
- Xperia go
- Xperia ion
- Xperia J
- Xperia miro
- Xperia P
- Xperia S
- Xperia SL
- Xperia sola
- Xperia tipo
- Xperia U
Many of those phones are well within 18 months to two years old, and many received updates as recent as Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), which isn’t such a bad life cycle. And of the phones listed here, most never made their way to American soil. Still, it’s always a bummer to know that your device has reached the end of the line from a software perspective — especially when the latest version of Android (that’d be 4.4 KitKat) was written to run better on older hardware and can even run on the old Nexus One from 2010.
