Netflix’s next expansion could take the video service to Germany and France: Netflix is currently in the process of building out a European PR team based in Amsterdam that will help the company with its planned expansion into continental Europe, and two recently posted job listings for positions on that team suggest that both Germany and France are high on the list of targeted countries.
One of the ads lists this as required language skills:
“Ability to speak/write English. Dutch, the Nordic languages, German and French are a plus.”
Netflix is already available in the Netherlands, the U.K. and Ireland as well as the Nordics. The other ad contains the same requirements with a slightly different wording. Altogether, Netflix is looking to fill eight positions in Amsterdam, according to its jobs site.
Netflix executives have been saying for some time that they’re looking to expand into multiple international markets in 2014. In October, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said: “When we look forward next year, we definitely will be looking at some larger expansions.” Germany and France both fit that bill, being the 4th and 6th biggest internet market as measured by the number of broadband subscribers, respectively.
A Netflix spokesperson wasn’t available for comment on the company’s future markets. However, Netflix’s next expansion target could be announced as early as next week, when the company is scheduled to release its Q4 earnings report.
