Update Friday 6 December: I’ve been informed that Citrix has taken GoTogether off the app store because of some issues regarding audio quality on voice calls. It will be put back as soon as the issues are resolved. Those who have already downloaded the app can use it normally.
Citrix announced GoTogether today, a mobile team communications app for iOS. Users can create as many teams as they want, invite people to teams by email, and then use GoTogether’s real-time chat and voice call capabilities to communicate. The tool is available for download today at the iTunes Store.
Here’s the tool’s ‘Create a Team’ page. Note that you can also add nearby people that have the app installed.
I created a team and invited Jocelyn Shaw, the PR lead from Weber Shandwick who had alerted me to the release coming out. The chat and call buttons are prominent.
The team chat works in the conventional way: intuitive and simple. (Strangely enough the link in the chat is colored light blue, but was not clickable, which is a pain.)
Clicking on individuals in the team limits who you might invite to a call, as shown in this image from Citrix, which shows the user setting up a call with two other members of a team:
The Bottom Line
Obviously, this is just a first look, as I haven’t used the tool in a real work situation. However, GoTogether looks like a small and simple app, well-designed for its intended market, which is small teams in the mobile workforce.
I think it’s interesting that Citrix has chose to implement this free tool without integration with its other work management offerings, like Podio and ShareFile. Maybe we’ll see some of that in a later, premium model for enterprise customers.
