The HTC One Max only hit store shelves today, but that hasn’t stopped information about HTC’s forthcoming M8 smartphone from leaking. We’ve already seen purported images of the device, and now we’re getting a first look at possible specs.
According to insider @evleaks, “Sounds like the HTC M8 is — and you could probably predict — a 5-inch, 1080p handset powered by KitKat and a Snapdragon 800.”
Evleaks is right. You can predict those specs, since plenty of new phones are built around a 1080p display and Snapdragon 800 CPU. What I’m a little concerned about is how HTC expects these specs to stay relevant months from now, as the M8 isn’t expected to arrive until early next year.
Don’t get me wrong – even if this information is correct, the HTC M8 will be very powerful, and the Snapdragon 800 chip is a step up from the Snapdragon 600 in the HTC One. But that’s just HTC playing catch up, as opposed to using the latest and greatest processor that will be available next year.
On the plus side, it’s nice to see in the inclusion of Android 4.4 KitKat, but that’s almost a given since there’s plenty of time for HTC to modify the software to its liking.
It’s quite possible these alleged specs will change time and again before the phone is actually announced. But judging by what we see here, HTC will have to offer more in the way experiences and services if it wants to get ahead of the competition.
