You can now buy last year’s Nexus 7 tablet for $99

Whoa. Android Police has stumbled upon a pretty crazy tablet promotion. GameStop(s gme) is now offering the 2012 Nexus 7 with 32GB of memory for just $99. By comparison, the tablet last cost $249 when it was available directly from Google Play.

If you check GameStop’s Nexus 7 inventory, you’ll see that it’s running quite low. The good news is that Staples(s spls) offers a full price match guarantee, so you should be able to walk into your local store, show them the lower price, and walk out with a 32GB Nexus 7 for less than $100.

A quick recap: The Nexus 7 features a 7-inch, 1280 by 800 display and is powered by a quad-core Nvidia(s nvda) Tegra 3 processor. It’s not quite as sharp-looking or powerful as the 1080p 2013 version, but it also costs $170 less.

Better yet, the tablet should be receiving an update to Android 4.4 (KitKat) in the coming weeks, so you’ll be running Google’s brand new mobile OS before many of the other non-Nexus tablets out there.

Got this price matched at Staples. They did not have it in stock, but were able to order it online for me, shipped to my house, at the Game Stop price. Just brought a printout of the gamestop page saying $99.99.

I grabbed the last 2 from the GS in Stonecrest Mall cause some idiot reserved the yesterday and didn’t pick them up by close of business. BOOM!

What a crock. I bought the nexus 7 the instant they came out last year. I really like the machine. Game stop said that they could trade it in to buy the 2013 model. 25 bucks. To hell with game stop.

What could be better than it. AT&T just before few months was selling Nokia Lumia 920 only for $99 with one year contract. Now GameStop is offering Nexus 7 for that low price, it good. But recently I purchased Google Nexus 5. I’ll be looking for it in future not now. I’ve just unlocked bootloader.

…And Staples took 32 mins to figure out that it was disqualified b/c it’s not in stock online.

I checked with Staples to see if they would match it – negative. For their price match the item needs to be in stock both in the GameStop phyiscal stores AND on their website. Since GameStop does not have this deal online, Staples won’t match it.

Another 7-inch tablet worth considering launched last week and is priced at $179 and features a high resolution 1440×900 screen display, quad core performance, Bluetooth, GPS and more — the Pipo U6 model is available through TabletSprint — and this reseller adds in some premium game bonus Apps and 500MB of monthly 4G Internet access with nationwide coverage – worth checking out
