Amazon’s(s amzn) Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi is out of stock, suggesting that new models may be on the way.

It’s been about a year since Amazon launched the front-lit Kindle Paperwhite, and the company plans to introduce new tablets this fall, so it wouldn’t be surprising if it announced a new e-reader then as well.

The Kindle Paperwhite 3G, which starts at $179 with ads, is still in stock.

  1. I am hoping for a paperwhite model with 7 inch screen to match tablets. Better lighting.. both physical page turn buttons as well as touch. If the first two things I mentioned here are done, I am sold. Currently own the latest basic model but am waiting on 2013 lit version.

Please, oh yes. First, improve the evenness of the light distribution. Reduce the price of the 6″ display version. Introduce an HD model with the 6.9″ screen that was released by e-Ink in the spring. And maybe even bring back the 9″ size of the Kindle DX as a paperwhite model.
