Opscode on Monday named Barry Crist CEO, replacing Mitch Hill who is stepping down due to a personal health issue, according to a company statement. For the past five months, Crist was executive vice president of enterprise — a key push for the company. Before that he was CEO of Likewise, now part of EMC’s Isilon group, and VP of application management at Mercury Interactive, now a division of Hewlett-Packard.
Seattle-based Opscode vies with Puppet Labs (see disclosure) as a top provider of configuration management tools popular in the growing devops movement.
In other news, Opscode co-founder Adam Jacob will now serve as Chief Dev Officer to lead product engineering and Paul Edelhertz is now senior vice president of customer operations, driving enterprise adoption of Enterprise Chef. Jacob was previously chief customer officer and Edelhertz led the company’s services and community organizations.
Disclosure: Puppet Labs is backed by True Ventures, a venture capital firm that is an investor in the parent company of this blog, Giga Omni Media. Om Malik, founder of Giga Omni Media, is also a venture partner at True.
