Riak CS is an ideal option for large object storage to power applications and services. Riak CS is content agnostic and can be used to store any data type, including images, video, documents, database backups and more. Using multipart upload, Riak CS can store objects into the terabyte size range.
Riak CS automatically redistributes data whenever nodes are added or removed, making it easy to scale a cluster as needed. This eliminates the operational burden of sharding and makes it a nice fit when building public clouds or cloud services. Additionally, Riak CS is multitenant, a necessary requirement for most public cloud services.
Riak CS is S3-compatible, making it a cost-effective option for companies providing internal, S3-like services or using a hybrid cloud storage approach. The HTTP REST API supports service, bucket and object-level operations to easily store and retrieve data.
Riak CS Enterprise is the commercial extension of Riak CS that adds multi-data-center replication. By replicating data across data centers using either real time or full sync, Riak CS Enterprise can be used to maintain active backups, create availability zones or for redundant storage for disaster recovery.
