Popular 3D printer maker MakerBot will release its Digitizer 3D scanner next week, the company announced today.
3D scanners scan physical objects and turn them into a virtual file that can be printed on a 3D printer. Handheld and platform-based scanners that resemble the Digitizer have begun popping up on crowdfunding sites at price points of $1,000 or less. MakerBot hasn’t said how much the Digitizer will cost, but my bet is it will be $500 or less to appeal to hobby 3D printer owners.
