Evernote competitor Catch to shut down

In a fairly abrupt change of direction, Catch, an Evernote competitor that was well-reviewed and featured by Apple, has announced plans to shut down its service by the end of August.

The app is still available at the iTunes website for iPhone and iPad, but the website just shows an announcement about the closing.

This is a cautionary tale about relying on services — even ones that are touted as best of breed — that are attempting to unseat an industry giant, as Catch was trying to do with Evernote.

Those who are interested in an alternative to Evernote might want to look at Honey (see “Honey is a co-curation tool with aspirations“).
