YouTube for iPad: Here’s a great alternative app for iOS6

It’s been a few days since Apple (s AAPL) started to make iOS 6 available to the general public, and the absence of any kind of YouTube (s GOOG) app has caught many iPad users by surprise. Sure, Google launched its very own YouTube app for iOS almost two weeks ago – but that app is optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch, and simply doesn’t look right on an iPad display. And yes, you can also access YouTube’s mobile site – but to be honest, the experience isn’t quite the same. So what should a iPad owner do?

The answer is quite simple: Install the free Jasmine app. That’s a YouTube app made by the same independent developer who also created the iOS Reddit app Alien Blue, Jason Morrissey, who created the app for and named it after his daughter. And the app doesn’t just feature a very nice, clean and minimal design, it also comes with almost everything you’d expect from a YouTube app, including:

  • Access to featured and trending videos as well as YouTube’s topical channels
  • Access to your favorites, playlists and subscriptions
  • The ability to share videos via Twitter, email and through your iPad’s clipboard
  • The display of comments, as well as the ability to add your own comments to a video
  • A night mode with a dark background
  • Parental controls for users who purchase the Pro version
  • Airplay

This app is already so much better than Apple’s old YouTube app that came with iOS pre-installed, and it’s actually raising the bar for Google’s upcoming YouTube iPad app. Sure, it’s missing a few features, including easy sharing with Facebook (s FB) and Google+, but most of the people who are currently looking for a YouTube app alternative should be more than happy with Jasmine.

Check out a few screenshots of the app below:

Not only is it cool but all the sings that were previously blocked for Mobil devices all work like on a regular computer. How cool is that?

any YouTube video you watch on jasmine that is a YouTube video with ads will be restricted. The war has begun begween the two companies. there is no app for ipad YouTube yet.

Ok found it. Simply uploaded a new video and save it in my favourites. All are now available . Worked for me. Hope it’s permanent

Sorry, Uninstalling and installing did not work for me?? Too bad a super application. I’ll try again until I find it and will let all of you know

Everytime I go into one of my favorite videos it gives me an error that YouTube has restricted this feeds for this viedo. It is happening on all of them.

I’ve deleted and reinstalled several times… Still no favourites and youtube has restricted feeds.

Uninstalling/Reinstalling does not work for my ipad2. Tried multiple times along powering down and up.

How do I upload and edit my videos? My uploaded through the Internet seems to not work anymore.

When does someone come with an of- line record function embedded in the same app?

When I select download the system send me to the apps store, but the “free” button to install the app is locked and doesn’t allow me to install…..any help???.

Is there any chance for Google doing an iPad app? Why only for the iPhone?

I found another great app Videopind for the iPhone that does more than just get your youtube videos; vimeo and dailymotion as well + your social connect + favourites and cloud share – pretty cool ha.

Brilliant. Was stumped with the recent change. Have installed Jasmine. Very good. Thanks

All my favorites are coming up “YouTube has restricted feeds for this video”. So, what now?

No, it didn’t do the trick. Still got that after several unistalling/reinstalling

I have loaded the Jasmine app onto my IPad but cannot save my favourites. Red bar drops down advising only account holder can save favourites. Bit confused.

I can’t get the app to play anything. Every video brings up the message “Youtube has restricted the feeds for this video.”

The “Youtube has restricted the feeds for this video” message is a known bug. The solution is easy: just unistall and reinstall the app and the problem should go away.

Instead of reinstalling the app, try doing the update. I did this and now the app works fine.

Same. Very disappointed that iOS 6 caused the loss of YouTube icon without being pre warned. The google download is terrible in look, functionality and ease of use. This is much better. Thanks

Omg! Thanks a lot! I was looking for the YouTube icon and it wasn’t there!! I was very surprise and upset at the same time. Now I saw your post here, what a relief! Installing Jasmine rite away. Thanks again ^^
