I’m very pleased to introduce a new member of our editorial team, Ki Mae Heussner. Ki Mae will be writing about New York startups, with a particular focus on e-commerce and advertising technology. With the former, she’ll be covering innovations like subscription commerce, flash sales and social shopping. With the latter, she’ll be examining everything from data targeting to ad-buying platforms to the evolution of display advertising.
Ki Mae will also be closely watching the finance, education and healthcare sectors for interesting new companies, entrepreneurs, and trends. Ki Mae is part of a one-two punch in our NYC startup coverage that also includes Ryan Kim. Ryan, who joined GigaOm in late 2010, focuses primarily on social and location/mobile, including mobile payments. The rise of social, mobile and local has been one of the biggest tech stories in recent years, and it’s changing the way people communicate and interact. Startup coverage has, of course, been part of our DNA at GigaOM since day one, back in 2006. But we’ve been steadily expanding the geography. We now have reporters on the ground covering startups everywhere from Boston and Austin, to Chicago and San Francisco, to London and Berlin. We don’t try to cover every startup, but rather the ones that we think have good prospects and enhance the entire technology ecosystem.
