Paul Sweeting’s “Today in Connected Consumer” summarizes the Facebook frenzy (will the company publish its prospectus this week in anticipation of an IPO, possibly in May?). So I’ll link to a new Long View from Mathew Ingram on the competitive landscape for identity services. Mathew sees Facebook in the lead, but it’s early in this contest. We’ll likely see more contenders, too. My definition of identity services might have a few extra bells and whistles – I sketched some of those out in this analysis. It’s likely that users will end up with multiple services for profiles, and group and presence management. But it would be more convenient for them to be unified, and even more powerful if a user could manage different persona for different uses – business, shopping, comments, etc.
