Today in Mobile

The mobile industry is buzzing this morning over this BGR post from late yesterday outlining Apple’s plans to launch a new iOS app for use in its retail locations. The app, which is reportedly scheduled to launch tomorrow (Thursday), enables users to order Apple products on their mobile devices and pick those products up in the store just 12 minutes later. This may not sound revolutionary, but as my colleague Darrell Etherington points out it could take transactions off the retail floor altogether, allowing the company to focus entirely on educating customers and showcasing Apple’s wares. So it’s no overstatement to suggest that this could be a small step in changing the way shop at brick-and-mortar stores.
