iPhone 4S pre-orders now officially live


Apple (s aapl) officially began taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4S via its online store at around 12:45 a.m. PDT (3:45 a.m. EDT) on Friday morning. Users eligible for an upgrade can place their order now, and shipments will begin arriving at customer doorsteps next Friday, Oct. 14. Pre-orders are began earlier at around 12 a.m. PDT at Sprint(s s), and Verizon‘s(s vz) online stores, while AT&T(s t) lagged behind, and still hadn’t begun offering orders as of this writing.

The iPhone 4S is available in 16, 32 and 64 GB capacities in either white or black, for $199, $299 or $399 respectively on contract when you sign up for a new, two-year agreement in the U.S. It’s also available unlocked direct from Apple in some countries, like Canada, beginning at $649. An unlocked version will be available in the U.S. beginning in November.

The 4S improves on its predecessor with a dual-core A5 processor, dual-core graphics processing, a new dual-mode (GSM and CDMA) antenna that can reach up to 14.4 Mbps on HSDPA networks, and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with improved sensor technology and full, 1080p HD video capture.

Maybe the most significant improvement from an end-user perspective is the addition of Siri, Apple’s voice-activated personal digital assistant, which can do things like set appointments, compose text messages and check the weather, all in response to natural language queries like “Will I need my raincoat this weekend?” The iPhone 4S also comes with iOS 5, Apple’s latest mobile operating system software, preinstalled. The new operating system will be available for other eligible device owners Oct. 12.

Try logging into your AT&T account first. Worked like a charm for me.


Log into your AT&T account first, then select the upgrade feature within your account. After numerous failed attempts from the home screen, this worked for me. But say goodbye to your grand fathered data unlimited plan…


Site is soo bogged down. Trying to pre-order and get this: “We are currently experiencing high volumes of iPhone orders and may require up to 1 minutes to access your AT&T account information. In order to maintain the priority of your order, please remain on this page.”


AT&T is F*#&ING GARBAGE!!!! was on the phone with them for an hour and twenty minutes, an automated voice came on and said they couldn’t answer my phone call at this time and to call back later… called back and have noe been on the phone with them for 29 minutes…. AND their website is a joke… I have a business account and can’t order anywhere but AT&T or via phone… Fucked myself on this one I guess?


preordered through ATT’s store at about 4a ET, went straight through with no hicups. Didn’t seem to work through the Apple Store option though.


well at&t is lagging or something, i think i just ordered 2 iphone 4gs’s using the same upgrade on my plan… i wonder if they will bill be twice and send me 2 iphones haha. you would think they would void the second upgrade


Finally got it ordered. 1 hour and 37 minutes after they were supposed to be available.

First Apple is almost an hour late. Then they won’t accept “new customers”. Sprint finally comes online and after very slow navigation Amex fraud protection kicks in.

Not exactly what you’d call smooth.


well i ordered through At&T, i dont know if it went through. I ordered the phone a second time through at&t on same upgrade so does that mean i’m getting 2 iphones on 1 upgrade? wishful thinking but come on whats going on with At&t

has anyone bought the iphone for pickup…or is it just delivery.


If you pre-ordered it on the network’s site, you’ll get it delivered on Oct. 14th or Oct. 15th. If you pre-ordered from Apple.com you can choose to stand in line and experience the longest line of your life OR have it shipped to you. but you have to setit up yourself whereas if you get it from the network’s site, they set it up for you so you can just use it right out of the box. I just finished pre-ordering mine from the network’s site btw. Hope that helped :D

Apple store app also didn’t begin working until 12:45am, and I have yet to be able to order from there as I keep getting error messages. Now would be a good time to switch to Verizon as their website was lighting fast and ready to accept orders… Does this also speak to their quality of service??? Guess I won’t know until I can take off the ATT contract handcuffs!!!


my order wont go through, and i’m getting upset. but i’m definitely looking forward to the iphone 4S! it’s going to be my first smartphone, and i know i will love it!

It keeps giving an error when talking to AT&T to check eligibility. This sucks.
