Update: There’s probably a few of you that want the new iPhone 4S when it arrives in stores in two weeks. Luckily several companies want your old phone. Badly. EBay is being the most aggressive, announcing Tuesday it’ll pay out up to $357 cash for an iPhone in good working condition. The company says the price is guaranteed until 11:59
am pm PT Wednesday.
After committing to a deal, eBay sends a label for free shipping which needs to go out in the mail within seven days. Sellers get paid once eBay gets the item. EBay isn’t just looking for the iPhone 4 either. They’ll also take older iPhones and Android phones. Here are the prices they’re guaranteeing for the next day if the phone is well taken care of:
- AT&T iPhone 4: Up to $357
- Verizon iPhone 4: Up to $318
- AT&T iPhone 3GS: Up to $229
- HTC EVO 3D: Up to $200
- HTC Thunderbolt: Up to $200
- HTC Droid Incredible 2: Up to $200
- HTC Sensation 4G: Up to $225
Selling used iPhones to gadget buyback companies after Apple announces a new one is a practice that’s been picking up steam in the last couple of years. But this year, competition for used iPhones has been at its fiercest: eBay competitor NextWorth was offering a guaranteed $250 to iPhone 4 (16GB or 32GB) owners who agreed to sell before Tuesday’s Apple announcement.
Gazelle.com, offering about $160 for a 32GB iPhone 4 in “good” condition, has also said its buyback prices will be guaranteed for up to 30 days if owners agree to sell an old iPhone by “early afternoon” Tuesday. Gazelle said as of Tuesday morning before the iPhone 4S debuted, it was buying back an iPhone “every 15 seconds.”
