If you spend any amount of time talking to folks in the tech world, it soon seems they are all focusing on their “mobile strategies.” And if one thing became clear over the wide-ranging topics covered at the GigaOM Mobilize conference this week, it’s that all the buzz about mobile technology is completely warranted. The space is so big — and growing so quickly — that the opportunity to really serve it well is a high priority for everyone from indie game developers to major corporations.
The numbers speak louder than words, so here are some of the most interesting stats that surfaced on stage at Mobilize 2011:
Number of Facebook users (out of 800 million total) who typically access the social network from a mobile device
The number of years it took to build WebOS, according to the software project’s former leader Michael Abbott
The amount of photos uploaded to Instagram each second
Total number of mobile app developers who approached two venture capital firms, Canaan Partners and Kleiner Perkins, for funding in the past six months
The number of those mobile app startups in which Canaan and Kleiner Perkins ultimately opted to invest
Approximate number of Tweets per day emanating from mobile devices — that’s 45 percent of the 230 million messages Twitter processes daily
Percentage of users on any given mobile app that can be typically classified as “passive participants” as opposed to power users, according to Appconomy CEO Brian Magierski.
