Facebook’s f8 developer conference on Thursday will be themed around “Read, watch, listen,” according to AllThingsD. Does that mean content dashboards around books/magazines, TV/movies and music? Perhaps linked by a syndicated entertainment check-in and recommendation system a la its Like button? Could be. Om broke the music dashboard strategy story, and while Facebook could become an important digital music hub, it will be hard to make much money off that. Inside Facebook thinks entertainment buttons could help ad targeting, and Read Write Web thinks they could challenge GetGlue and Tumblr. Those companies aren’t even on Facebook’s radar. Yet TechCrunch hears that Facebook won’t be showing its rumored “Spartan” HTML5 (plus Credits?) Apple-avoider strategy. But Facebook has been saying this will be a big event; are linked content dashboards really big? What other key platform technologies could arm its competition with Google and other platforms?
