Wal-Mart Buys Ad Targeter OneRiot

WalMart may be better known for its great savings for shoppers, but it’s also becoming known for its acquisitions of online advertising companies. The big retailer has bought real-time search engine-cum-ad-targeter OneRiot, which is a sign that WalMart plans to conquer e-commerce the way it has become one the largest physical chain stores.

The purchase of OneRiot comes about five months after the big box retailer acquired social commerce hub Kosmix and folded it into its tech arm, WalMartLabs.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. But WalMartLabs did say that it intended to incorporate OneRiot into its project to better understand consumers’ social networking habits and target across people’s interests. Release
