  1. I thinking of getting the $100 Roku 2 — but what I really DO want is as much 1080 streaming as possible. I can’t get a clear idea of how many Netflix titles are in 1080 with 5.1 audio. That said, I’m currently streaming Netflix to my iPad 2 and what I see, I like. (But quality is so-so through my Wii to my HD set (42inch). So … i’m also thinking about Apple TV. Plus it includes include Netflix. So I guess I need to know what the deal is with Netflix content.

I have the original Roku player & it still does exactly what i need it to do. The 1080p is not needed for streaming, most ppl i know that have HD cable & dont even watch the HD channels but they think its 1080p programming until i flip to the ACTUAL channels when I come over, lol Consumers… If anyone prefers that 1080p stream… just rent/buy the source, it will always be better. Angry Birds doesn’t interest me & I have a game console so any of those games wont matter BUT i am sure others can put it to great use, so i wont knock it. Cool tech tho! Love the Roku brand.

Before anyone ask, yes I can stream on the console but the ROKU player does it better, faster & clearer.

  3. I’ve had a first gen Roku HD for about a year and it’s always been a bit buggy (maybe too many channels) I ordered a Roku 2 XS last Sunday and It will be here tomorrow. Hopefully it will work a bit better.

I had the XDS and I did upgrade. Why? I really don’t know. It seems like the only major upgrade (if you want to call it that) was the addition of Angry Birds. I thought there would be more feature/channels available. I don’t regret “upgrading” but I would not suggest it if your satisfied with your current player. PlayOn still having issues on the new R2.

  6. Have the original XD and I don’t plan to upgrade just yet. I do like the casual gaming aspect, as it make the roku more than just a video device. I have my old one hooked up to an old CRT TV and the new ones removed that option. You NEED to have a TV that has HDMI inputs now. DANG!

I bought my Roku XDS last year-Angry Birds and 1080p are not enough to upgrade at the moment. BTW-will there still be firmware updates for the older versions???

I bought the Roku XD less than a month ago and now the Roku 2 is out. I’m not into casual gaming but I do have an Ethernet connection on my box which apparently was dropped on the new generation equivelant. At first I was a little annoyed but since I wasn’t inclined to pay $100 I consider myself fortunate. And that my movies are streamed at 720p and not 1080p is no big deal.

    No plans to upgrade!

The Roku 2 DOES have an ethernet connection. You may be confusing it for the optical cable connection. That is the one that was dropped from the Roku 2.

If you’re happy with the Roku XD (and you bought it from the Roku website), make sure you call Roku and get the $10 credit they are offering people who don’t return their units.

People with the older model who bought through the Roku site less than 30 days ago are eligible for a $10 credit if they don’t return their units.

Owned the XR and upgraded to the New Roku 2 XS….love it so far, but not happy that PlayOns private app channel is broke on the new one!
