Login Denied: More Skype Issues Force Callers Offline

Skype

Another issue with Skype’s voice-calling service Tuesday forced the company to acknowledge problems with logging into the application, the second hiccup in the weeks since Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) agreed to purchase the company.

It’s never clear how widespread these things are in an age when it’s very easy to complain about free services, but it was at least big enough to send Skype to its corporate blog, where it acknowledged that people were having trouble signing into the service five hours before it declared that things were mostly back to normal. No explanation was provided for today’s issues, which come weeks after a separate problem forced Skype users on Windows to reconfigure some files to get back online.

Few Web services promise 100 percent uptime, but because Skype is a vital form of communication for many people around the world, outages tend to draw more attention. Not to mention the fact that Microsoft’s courtship of the company has much to do with the potential to connect Windows Phone 7 users, which is an $8.5 billion gamble by the software giant.
