Today in Cloud

In the United States this week, the General Services Administration (GSA) published the long-awaited RFQ for a Government cloud computing contract worth up to $2.5 Bn over five years. Gartner’s Andrea Di Maio delves a little deeper, highlighting the importance of email and office automation/productivity solutions to the current tender, and welcoming the GSA’s role here in rationalising procurement rather than specifying or building a single monolithic solution. In Europe, meanwhile, the European Commission is inviting expressions of interest to “contribute to the drafting of a sound strategic European agenda for clouds for e-science and e-government.” €150,000 (roughly $215,000) is available for this work.
